Most clips are between 30 seconds and a minute, and should take only a few seconds to download if you have broadband. 2 minutes to download with a 56K modem if people still have those. However, these aren't excerpts, they're all there is. Only a couple are what I would call song-length.
The ones with a * are my favorites right now, which are usually newer stuff towards the end.
| Song | Year approx. | Notes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Untitled 1988 | 1988 | Wrote it on the Mirage and redid it on the Korg | |
| Funk You | 1989 | First thing I ever did on the Korg | |
| NJS Festival | 1990 | meant as the typical ambient jazz of the late 80's | |
| Tribe Parts 1 and 2 | 1990 | Oldfieldesque synthpop/new-age; other parts are lost | |
| If I Tried | 1990 | I don't remember who wrote this, but it wasn't me. Mike, maybe? | |
| Jump (zzz) | 1990 | Cover (Van Halen) arrangement mine, 1 chorus | |
| Big Porno Muzak | 1990 | attempt at synth rock; a roommate said it was porno background music | |
| Bombastic | 1990 | pompous corporate-anthem-sounding chunk of fake orchestra that I might still use someday | |
| Untitled 1991 | 1991 | Beginnings of an uptempo jazzy thing with cheesy gtr simulation. | |
| Breadline | 1990 | Dubbed "Steely Rob" by a disapproving friend, an attempt at copping Steely Dan's style. | |
| Hi Gloss | 1991 | Just your typical church organ power drone. | |
| Mike's Riff | 1990 | Mike Conroy kept playing this riff so I embellished it into this | |
| Ceej's Song | 1990 | Cover (Chris Hillery); done from memory based on a MOD file he wrote | |
| * | MultiGuitar | 1991 | A strong theme meant for three guitars that I hope to use elsewhere |
| Good Man Down | 1991 | another stab at Steely Dan; I have lyrics to this one | |
| Eighth Way (Home?) | 1991 | don't remember where the title came from; anyway, it's in 7 | |
| Guilty | 1991 | Abortive cover (Oldfield) | |
| Funked Again | 1992 | Overproduced re-do of Funk You with the charm removed | |
| HeinousNoiz | 1992 | Parody of a Jean-Michel Jarre song arranged in memory of the 8-man incarnation of Event Horizon | |
| To Run | 1992 | just your basic driving bass/piano thing, no idea what to do with it | |
| Untitled Piano Riff 1991 | 1991 | meant as a bridge to something I've since forgotten | |
| Carrion | 1990 | Parody of Kansas a la big band | |
| DNA on LSD | 1992 | Parody of a dance mix of Tom's Diner but in retrospect, I'd clearly heard "People Are Still Having Sex" not long before doing this. | |
| Bombrasstic | 1992 | Another take on Bombastic but with more "gusto" | |
| Composure | 1992 | Wistful underwater piano take that I've got no idea what to do with | |
| Disco Feevah | 1993 | 16 bars of cheesy 1990s disco, pure and simple | |
| Unfrozen Caveman Jazz Guitar | 1993 | One of my early MIDI files found on backup and cleaned up | |
| * | Rick's Song | 1993 | Oldfieldish thing, first few seconds inspired by one of Rick Locke's improvs |
| Schwinng 7 | 1993 | An attempt to do a swing tune in 7; sounds kind of goofy. | |
| Waldos | 1994 | Based on a chordal figure I've played on bass for years with; may become a bridge | |
| Untitled 1996 | 1996 | could be part of a song ending; sounds nothing like I envisioned | |
| At an End (verse 1) | 1996/97 | Thrown together 22 Sept 97. One take per part, no quantizing, and I played everything with my left hand 'cause I can't get in front of the keyboard. | |
| * | At an End (bridge) | 1996/97 | New more-developed bridge with mellotron and piano added |
| * | At an End (solo) | 1996 | keyboard section from At an End, wanky but pretty cool |
| Untitled 961231a | 1996 | wistful piano/guitar figure to base a song on | |
| Untitled 970127 | 1997 | another attempt at a "rock" song; I need to get my guitar fixed | |
| Untitled 970131 | 1997 | another piano/guitar thing, had lyrics on my voice recorder that got stolen along with my car around 2000 | |
| Forgotten | 1997 | piano-based origin of "Forgotten", lyrics ended up same as above | |
| * | Old Song | 1986/97 | One of the first songs I ever wrote (1986ish). Kind of Genesis-like. Minimal 1997 version. |
| * | Dance | 1997 | Wrote this song on my 28th birthday and still haven't gotten away from it. Just the chorus, which I sing, and fake guitar solo. |
| Meloflute | 1997 | Something I improvised while working on a Mellotron patchset (as you'll hear, the set wasn't done yet - click click). | |
| Ten Years | 1997 | Actually two little bits crammed together and it's still only 30 seconds. Only the first half is actually part of "Ten Years". | |
| * | Lies Part 2 | 1997 | Where's part 1? Who the hell knows? This is a jazzy mellotron/piano thing. |
| * | Takedown | 1997 | More mellotron abuse. This is the first appearance of what I now call the "Takedown theme" that keeps popping up in songs I've written (not recorded) since then, and meant to be the "solo" in the song of the same name (also not recorded.) |
| * | Jazzercide | 1997 | Not as danceable nor as ironic as the name implies. It's in 10/8, then 7/8, if I remember right. |
| Untitled 971205 | 1997 | Melancholy piano/Mellotron flute improv. Kind of goes nowhere. | |
| * | Untitled 980225 | 1998 | Kind of Genesissy. Genesish? Still rough but could be a good "big" song. Someone told me once that it somehow plagiarized all of "And Then There Were Three" without actually copying any notes. I took that as a compliment, but this is really pretty rough. |
| Lies Part 2 Vocoder | 1998 | My first vocoder experiment, so vomito de gato Mr. Roboto and all that. Some lyrics I dreamed. A new level of cheese. Very brief. And another version in the right key. | |
| E.F.A. | 1998 | "Extremely __________ Annoying" | |
| Squoolge | 1998 | Named after the analog synth sound I made up for it. Aside from that, pretty awful. | |
| Untitled 980225 rev. B | 1998 | So close and yet so far away. I have this Mellotron outro in my head, but the execution is pretty lame in this version. | |
| Stupid Dance | 2001 | Do you belIEEEeve how far this has gone? | |
| * | Dance Test | 2002 | After experimenting with Buzz for a weekend I came up with this. The mastering is awful and I like the sound of the original version better but I added a new section that came out really nice. This is purely Buzz and my 5-string bass. |
| Outro 20040424 | 2004 | My first recording since buying the piano, so boy am I rusty. This is the chord progression (or something) from the outro of a song I haven't gotten down yet. Since then the piano broke and I have yet to cause Linux to make any sounds with my Gravis patch sets when I plug a MIDI keyboard into it. I have a guitar but am not good enough on it to record song ideas, plus I've been kinda busy for part of it. So now it's five years later. | |
| * | Leipzig | 2009 | I decided I wanted to complete a song before I turned 40. So here it is with a few hours to spare: a cover of "Leipzig" by Thomas Dolby. I could do more to it, but I'm cutting myself off. This is all LMMS and Audacity and their assorted plugins. |
| Songs I've written but not recorded | 2004-2009 | They have names like Dark Sunlight, Takedown Slight Return, Valentine, She's Afraid, Medicated, Unchanged (which looks like it'll get that untitled intro from 1998-02-25), Sweeter Times Ahead, Wherever You Will Go, By My Hands, Abreaction (current name for the instrumental that incorporates Rick's Song and Bombastic among others), All I Need and I'm sure I'll add to this list of titles much faster than I get to recording any of them. Hope I get some of them out while I still can. |
